HOW TO DECORATE PATRIOTIC CELEBRATION PRETZELS
- Place a piece of wax paper on a cookie sheet.
- Melt the candy. I chose to coat the pretzels in white first. TIP: If your candy melts don’t get loose enough to dip into, add a little shortening that will loosen the candy and make it easier to coat your pretzels. The key to coating the pretzel without the candy dripping everywhere is in the temperature of the candy. Not too hot and not too cold. Once the candy is the right consistency it’s time to dip. I put mine in a bowl and used a spoon to drizzle and coat the pretzel. Swirl the pretzel to let any extra candy drip off and tap on the side of the bowl.
- FOR THE COVERED IN SPRINKLES METHOD: Cover the pretzel rod in the melted candy (white) and spoon or pour sprinkles on immediately. (Place finished pretzel on a wax paper lined cookie sheet.)
- FOR THE DRIZZLE METHOD: Cover pretzel rods in melted white candy (like the sprinkles method), place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Place in the refrigerator to harden (about 10 minutes). While the candy is hardening, melt two additional colors (blue and red). Pour the melted candy into small piping bags or small zip top bags. Close the top with a rubber band and snip the ends. In a back and forth motion add one color at a time. While candy is still wet add patriotic sprinkles. Place finished pretzels on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper to harden.

I used Bakers squares and when I set the Pretzels out they got soft. What can I do or what chocolate do I use??
Thanks for your help, Joan
Hi Joan,
I used Candy Melts. It stays hard a little bit better. But if you live in a place with heat and humidity. They are going to get soft at this time of year. To help, I would store them in the refrigerator until ready to serve. 🙂

In watching your video you suggested that shorting be added but you didn’t state how much Candy Melts to how much shorting.Concerned?
Hi Helen, I usually add about 1 tablespoon to one bag of candy melts.
can I melt multiple colors at a time?
Hi Gary, only if you have something warm to keep them in. Like a melting pot from Wilton. I like to melt my candy, pour the melted candy into piping bags, use a rubber band to close the top and place the bags in a warm melting pot.
