HOW TO DECORATE PRETZELS
- For these pretzels I used two techniques. The Chocolate Drizzle and Chocolate Coating with sprinkles. Both are super easy and visually pleasing.
- THE KEY TO THESE PRETZELS IS THE DOUBLE COAT OF PEANUT BUTTER
- Melt peanut butter chips ( I used Reese’s peanut butter chips)
- Spoon melted peanut butter chips over pretzel rod
- Tap on the side of the bowl to get all the extra off
- Place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper (VERY IMPORTANT)
- Place the cookie sheet with the coated pretzels in the refrigerator until hardened (about 10 minutes)
- Add more peanut butter chips to the already melted chips and heat.
- Add a second coating of the melted peanut butter chips.
- Place in the refrigerator to harden (about 10 minutes)
- While the coating hardens, melt the dark chocolate.
- DECIDE AHEAD OF TIME WHICH TECHNIQUE YOU WILL BE USING—IF USING BOTH, THEN FIGURE OUT WHEN
- The reason is…..the sprinkles HAVE to be applied while the chocolate is wet.
- Coat pretzels over the peanut butter layer with the melted dark chocolate and add sprinkles
- OR ….Pour melted chocolate into a squeeze bottle or zip top bag with the corner cut off and in a back and forth motion drizzle the chocolate over the peanut butter layer

Reese's Pieces Decorated Pretzels
The sweet and salty combo is incredible with a thick layer of peanut butter and a dark chocolate outer coating. So delicious and so easy to make there's nothing quite like them.
Ingredients
- 12 Pretzel Rods
For the Peanut Butter Layer:
- ****FIRST COAT****
- 1 cup peanut butter chips (I used Reese's brand)
- 1 teaspoon shortening
- ****SECOND COAT****
- ½ cup peanut butter chips
- ½ teaspoon shortening
For the Dark Chocolate Layer:
- 1 cup dark chocolate candy melts or melting wafers
Optional:
- 1 cup sprinkles (orange, yellow and brown)
Instructions
For the Peanut Butter Layer:
- Pour *1 cup* peanut butter chips and *1 teaspoon shortening* into a microwave safe bowl, add the shortening. Microwave 1 minute, stri until all the chips are melted and creamy.
- Line a cookies sheet with parchment paper.
- Coat the pretzel rod with (leaving a few inches bare at the bottom) with the melted peanut butter chips.
- Tap the side of the bowl to release any excess and place on the prepared cookie sheet.
- Once all the pretzels are coated, place in the refrigerator to harden (about 10 minutes).
- While the first layer of the peanut butter is hardening, prepare the second layer.
- Add *½ cup* peanut butter chips and *½ teaspoon* to the melted peanut butter chips.
- Microwave 30 sends on high, stir and continue to microwave an additional 30 sends at 60%.
- Stir until creamy.
- Set aside to slightly cool (about 9 minutes)
- Take the pretzels out of the refrigerator and add the second coat just like the first coat.
- Place back in the refrigerator to harden...REALLY HARDEN (about 15 minutes)
For the Dark Chocolate Layer:
- While the second coat of the peanut butter layer is hardening, prepare the dark chocolate.
- Pour the dark chocolate into a microwave safe bowl, heat 1 minute, stir, heat 30 seconds at 60%, stir until creamy.
- Set aside to slightly cool (about 9 minutes).
- Choose your method (drizzle or sprinkle)
- Set finished pretzels on a clean piece of parchment paper place on a cookie sheet.
For the Drizzle Method:
- Fit a piping bag or zip top bag into a cup, pour melted chocolate into the bag.
- Snip the corner ( start with a very small snip, you can always increase the size of the drizzle if the chocolate isn't coming out enough, but never reverse it)
- Drizzle over pretzels in a back and forth motion.
- AT THIS POINT YOU CAN ADD A FEW SPRINKLES ON THE DRIZZLE
For the Sprinkle Method:
- Add a coat of the dark chocolate completly covering the peanut butter layer.
- While the chocolate is still wet, cover with sprinkles by sprinkling them on the prezel. DO NO DIP THE PRETZEL IN THE SPRINKLES.
Notes
It's virtually impossible to not have extra chocolate or peanut butter around the edges of a pretzel. To avoid messy edges, once the coating is hardened, I use my microplane tool.
