These Semi Homemade Country Caramel Apple Dumplings need just a few ingredients to shine.
Ingredients
For the Apples:
- 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Optional: 16 Kraft caramels, each cut into 3 to 4 pieces
For the Country Apple Dumplings:
- 2 (8 ounce) cans store bought crescent roll dough
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1¼ cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 (12 ounce) can or bottle Mountain Dew or Sprite
Instructions
For the Apples:
- Cut apples into 8 wedges.
- In a medium bowl whisk together the sugar and cinnamon.
- Toss apples in the sugar mixture, set aside.
For the Dumplings:
- Preheat oven to 350°; spray a 9x13 inch baking dish with non stick cooking spray.
- Separate dough into triangles (one can at a time).
- Place an apple wedge at the wide end of the triangle.
- Add optional caramel pieces, completely cover with dough—pinch to seal.
- Transfer to prepared baking dish—repeat with remaining apple wedges.
- Melt butter in a small saucepan or microwave in a bowl, stir in sugar and cinnamon.
- Drizzle butter mixture and soda over dough.
- Bake until golden brown, 35 to 45 minutes.
- Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
