The Delicious Layers!
HELP! MY STORE DOESN’T CARRY CHALLAH BREAD! WHAT ARE MY BREAD OPTIONS?
CHALLAH bread is an egg-based bread. Its light and airy texture helps the bread to easily absorb the egg custard. Any airy bread will work.
- Brioche Bread
- French Bread
CAN I SKIP ADDING THE PIE CRUST TO THE BREAD PUDDING?
Yes, adding the pie crust to the bread pudding is not necessary. But if you have a delicious pie crust, why let it go to waste? The addition of the pie crust introduces another layer of texture and flavor to your bread pudding.
CAN I USE A STORE-BOUGHT PECAN PIE INSTEAD OF A HOMEMADE PIE?
Yes, Although store-bought pies tend to be a lot smaller in width and depth than homemade pecan pies (unless yours is from Costco🤣), most of them are 8-inch pies. I recommend using the whole pie.
HELP! MY STORE DOESN’T CARRY SOUTHERN BUTTER PECAN CREAMER! WHAT CAN I USE INSTEAD?
DON’T WORRY; I’ve got you covered. You have a couple of options. Make your own butter pecan creamer, or use another creamer with a similar flavor.
CREAMER SUBSTITUTIONS: Use a caramel creamer with 2 tablespoons of melted butter. TIP: In order to prevent your butter from solidifying, heat the cream for a few seconds in the microwave before adding the melted butter. It’s not going to be exact, but it’s a good option.
HOW TO MAKE SOUTHERN BUTTER PECAN CREAMER
- ¼ cup pecans
- 2 cups any dairy of your choice, divided
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons butter extract
- 14 ounces of sweetened condensed milk
- optional: drizzle of caramel
- pinch of salt
- Blend together the pecans, 1 cup milk, vanilla extract, and butter extract until all the pecan bits are gone and the mixture is smooth.
- Place a fine mesh strainer over a medium saucepan, and pour the creamer through the strainer to catch any leftover pecan pieces.
- Whisk in the sweetened condensed milk, the remaining 1 cup of milk, an optional drizzle of caramel, and a pinch of salt.
TIPS FOR A STRONGER PECAN FLAVOR:
• Soak pecans in ½ cup water overnight, then blend the pecans with the water.
•Toast the pecans before adding them to the creamer.
HOW CAN I MAKE THIS BREAD PUDDING IF I DON’T HAVE A PIE?
The solution is to make or use store-bought pecan pie filling. Grandma’s Classic Pecan Pie Filling: There’s nothing like having a jar of pecan filling handy for last-minute desserts. Just like Grandma used to make but without the crust.
