Thank you Sheryl for the nice recipe – easy.
This is a lovely recipe. I really like that it uses only three ingredients.
Thanks Joshua, Yep, three ingredients is a pretty sweet deal. 🙂
Do you add water to the cake mix first?
Hi Kara, There’s not water. Just pineapple (with juice) and strawberries.
Do you need to grease the pan ?
Thanks , Mary
Hi Mary, No grease needed. This cake has plenty of moisture to keep it from sticking.
Are the strawberries sweetened or unsweetened?
Hi Mollie, The strawberries are unsweetened.
do you fix the angel food cake like it say on box or put on the fruit dry?
Hi Betty, Do not fix the cake. Only add the pineapple to the dry cake mix.
I came across this recipe & made it yesterday! Great.
That’s wonderful Linda. 🙂
Can I use fresh strawberries in place of frozen
Hi Marilyn, Yes, you can use fresh.
We have lots of frozen blueberries picked from our blueberry bushes so I was wondering if the blueberries could be used in place of the strawberries?
I think that’s a great idea Shirley!
For the 4th of July I put strawberries and blueberries on the bottom, then the cake pineapple mixture. Perfect red, white and blue.
That sounds awesome Darlene! Happy 4th of July! 🙂
Can you layer pineapple rings(with cherries in the middle)on the top? Or do you think they’d sink down. I’m thinking of making with cherries instead of strawberries. Sounds adorably retro!
Hi Barbara, It wouldn’t hurt to try. At the very least (if the pineapple does sink to the bottom) you could call it pineapple surprise cake.
Do you think this would work with a yellow cake mix instead of angel food cake mix?
Hi Orit, I have never used a yellow cake mix for a dump cake. Here is a recipe I found using a yellow cake mix→ DUMP CAKE RECIPE
