WITCH HAT INGREDIENTS LIST-full recipe below in recipe card
To begin crafting your wickedly delicious DIY edible witch hat treat, start by gathering your ingredients. Once you have everything you need, you will be ready to create the base of the witch hat. NOTE: The reason there are no amounts listed below is because the amounts depend on how many witch hats you wish to make.
- black candy melts
- bugle corn chips
- Oreo thins
- gold star shaped sprinkles
- optional: black luster powder
CREATE THE TOP OF THE WITCH HAT
Before dipping the bugles into the melted black candy melts set up a drying station. Rice and skewers work the best. Dip the top of each bugle into the melted black candy melts and place on a skewer to dry.
- Pour candy melts into a melting pot or a microwave safe bowl. Melt on high 1 minute, stir, and on 70% 30 seconds. Every microwave is different so this is not a rule, it’s what works using my microwave. The goal is to melt the candy but not get it too hot. If you get it too hot it will thicken on you. If this happens you can add a tablespoon of shortening. NO WATER!
- Set up the drying station. Rice and skewers works best.
- Dip the tops of each bugle in the melted candy. Place on the skewer to dry.
CREATE THE BASE OR RIM OF THE WITCH HAT
Separate the Oreo Thins, and scrape out the filling. Dip in the melted black candy melts, place on a parchment-lined baking pan and the refrigerator to harden (about 15 minutes).
If the edges are uneven, use a microplainer to make it even.
Rub your warm fingers around to smooth the edge.
Dip the bottom of the bugle in the melted black candy.
Press onto the center of the candy-dipped Oreo Thin. Place in the refrigerator to harden (about 15 minutes). OPTIONAL: If you would like to add a shimmer, brush on some black luster dust.
- Separate the Oreo thins and scrap out the filling.
- Dip each wafer in the melted candy, place on a parchment lined baking pan.
- Put in the refrigerator to harden (about 15 minutes). If the edges need to be trimmed, use a microplainer, rub your warm finger around the edges to smooth it out.
- Dip the base of the bugle in the melted candy, press onto the center of the Oreo.
- Put in the refrigerator to harden (about 15 minutes).
- Now, it’s time to move on to assembling the rest of the edible treat that will be the perfect addition to your Halloween party.
ADD THE FINISHING TOUCHES
Now comes the fun part – adding the finishing touches to your edible witch hat treats!
- Dip the underside of the star in the remaining melted black candy. Press onto the hat, hold until the candy holds the star in place.
- Brush on optional luster powder.
