How to Make Churro Pretzels
FULL PRINTABLE RECIPE BELOW
- Pour candy wafers ( I use Ghirardelli white vanilla wafers) and shortening into tall 24 ounce microwave safe container (Mine is 6½ inches)
- Heat in a microwave 1 minute, stir until creamy.
- Mix in the ¼ cup spice cake mix.
- Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl stir together sugar and cinnamon.
- Dip pretzel rods (making sure to leave a couple inches at the bottom for holding) into the melted candy, hold upside down to let the excess candy drip into the container, sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over pretzels, and then place on the cookie sheet lined with parchment paper to harden. TIP: To speed up the hardening process place finished pretzels in the refrigerator 10 minutes.
What Do I Do With The Leftover Spice Cake Mix?
Because only ¼ cup of the cake mix was taken, you can still make a cake with the leftover mix. Follow the ingredient list on the back (eggs, oil, water) and bake as instructed.
HOW MUCH IN ADVANCE CAN I DECORATE PRETZELS?
One of the best things about decorated pretzels (aside from the taste) is the convenience of being able to make them in advance of your party. It’s every hostesses dream to be able to make something this tasty before the craziness of the party prep starts. Ultimately taking some of the stress away from hosting a party. These adorable pretzels can be made as early as a week before the party.

HOW TO STORE LEFTOVER MELTED CANDY
If you find you have melted too much candy for your project, don’t worry melted candy can be stored to use again. STORAGE: Pour melted candy into a zip top bag, let all the air out of the bag, zip the bag closed, and let sit out until hardened. USE AGAIN: Pull the hardened candy out of the bag, chop, place in a microwave safe bowl, heat for 1 minute on high, stir and continue heating in 30 second increments at 60% until the candy is melted and creamy.
HOW TO STORE CHURRO PRETZELS
The easiest way is to store decorated pretzels is in an airtight container at room temperature. Provided everything is fresh to begin with and the container is clean, dry, and has a tight seal, partially covered pretzel rods can stay fresh for about 2-3 weeks.
SPOON VS DIP
In the past I have 100% always spooned the melted candy over the pretzels. Lately (even though it’s been around a long time) I discovered dipping. I LOVE it! The key (for me) is to use a container that is wide enough at the top and straight on the sides. Preferably, glass, 6½ inches tall, and 24 ounces. HOW TO MELT CANDY IN A DIPPING CONTAINER: I use a glass cup NOT mason jar. To make this process easy, using a glass that is straight, helps simplify the dipping process. 1. Pour melting candy (I use Ghirardelli white wafers) and 2 tablespoons of shortening in the container. 2. Heat on high 1 minute. 3. Stir and dip!
