Cola Butter Frosting Recipe | This light a fluffy frosting is packed with cola flavor and will go perfectly on any soda can cupcake.  What is a soda can cupcake?  It’s a cake mix and a can of soda!  Scroll down for a couple examples of how a soda can cupcake is made.

If you’ve never used flavorings in your frostings this is the time to try one!  They add so much flavor without a lot of moisture which is important when making frosting.  Too much moisture means adding a lot of sugar resulting in a very sweet frosting.

But if you’re looking for more of a fruity flavor I would recommend using freeze dried fruit (if the flavor comes in freeze dried form)  WOW!  Talk about tons of flavor and you also get a beautiful natural color too!

TIPS FOR A LIGHT AND FLUFFY FROSTING

• Good ingredients “real” butter not margarine
• Room temperature ingredients
• Be patient…you’ll need to whip the frosting at least 3 to 5 minutes.  This will allow air to incorporate into the butter and create the lightness you want.
• That’s it!  It’s really not as hard as you might think!

Cola Butter Frosting Recipe

Yield: Enough frosting for 24 cupcakes

Ingredients

• 2 cups unsalted butter, softened
• 5 cups powdered sugar
• optional 1/2 teaspoon cola flavoring
• 4 tablespoons flat cola

Instructions

In a medium mixing bowl add the butter beat until creamy (about 3 minutes).  Add the cola flavoring, 1 cup of sugar at a time alternating with the cola until the frosting reaches the perfect piping consistency.  Whip until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
