Use any flavor of frosting! Substituting frosting for candy melts is a great way of adding flavor to your decorated pretzels. Use white, add a drop or two of food coloring and customize your pretzels to match your party colors. TIP: Mix colors together to make unique colors.
Decorated pretzels are great on dessert tables. Need just one more thing? Add Frosting Dipped Decorated Pretzels! Or need a quick and easy party favor? Slip a couple into a cellophane bag and hand them out at the end of the party.
The hardest thing about this recipe is choosing what topping to use. Get all your toppings in order before beginning. For this post I chose to use granola, toasted coconut, sprinkles and mini chocolate chips. I also used two flavors of frosting, vanilla and dark chocolate.
HOW TO MAKE FROSTING DIPPED DECORATED PRETZELS
First, I want to start off my making sure you know that the frosting will not harden as much as candy melts. The frosting will become hard enough for staking and packaging but still pliable. Now onto the pretzels! It’s so simple I don’t know if it even warrants a list but here it goes! NOTE: Look below for the printable version.
- Decide what toppings you want, place them in small bowls for easy access.
- Line a cookie sheet with parchment or wax paper.
- Heat a can of frosting (still in the can) 30 seconds on high in the microwave.
- Dip pretzel in melted frosting (I used a spoon to bring the frosting up higher on the pretzel), shake off any excess, add topping and place on the prepared cookie sheet.
- Leave on the counter to harden or for a quicker result, place in the refrigerator.
