FOR RICE KRISPY TREAT SQUARES: Cover with plastic wrap and let cool completely before cutting into squares.
FOR RICE KRISPY TREAT POPS: While mixture is still soft, cut into equal squares, scoop out one square, and mold into a ball. Cut decorative paper straws in half, press into balls.
How to Change Up the Flavor of Rice Krispy Treat Pops
Even though I love a good traditional rice krispy treat, there are tons of options for switching up the flavor.
MARSHMALLOWS—During the Fall season you will be able to find candy corn flavored or pumpkin spice marshmallows. Chocolate marshmallows and rainbow marshmallows are also available.
ADD INS—Since there is pretty much hundreds of candy options, I’m going to limit this section to only a few.
Salty | Sweet | Chewy/Sprinkles |
peanuts, chopped | mini M&M’s | red vine licorice twists, chopped |
bugles, chopped | mini chocolate chips | nerds |
pretzels | skittles | sprinkles |
popcorn | circus (marshmallow) peanuts, chopped | candy corn |
seeds (pumpkin, sunflower) | raisinets | dried fruit (cranberries, apricots, chopped) |
What Kind of Stick to Use For the Pops
Any kind of stick will do. Popsicle sticks, lollipop sticks, caramel apple sticks, skewers (on the thick side), and paper straws.
Out of all the options listed above my favorite is the paper straw. With so many different patterns and holiday themed straw options it’s easy to customize your pops to fit the occasion.
How to Change the Shape of the Rice Krispy Treat Pops.
Instead of gathering the treat in your hands and rolling it into a ball, let the rice krsipy treats completely cool, cut into squares, and insert stick (paper straw). For added flavor add a drizzle of melted white chocolate/vanilla candy.

Halloween Rice Krispy Treat Pops
A traditional Rice Krispy Treats Recipe transformed into a fun Halloween Party treat! Add the traditional ingredients of rice cereal, butter and marshmallows plus crushed pretzels, Reece's Pieces, and Halloween sprinkles. The perfect sweet and salty combination.
Ingredients
- 6 cups crispy rice cereal
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 (10 ounce) bag mini marshmallows
- PLUS 1 cup mini marshmallows
- optional: orange gel food color
- 1 cup pretzels, crushed
- 1 cup Reece's pieces
- 1 cup Halloween themed sprinkles
- 9 decorative straws, cut in half
Instructions
- Measure cereal into a medium bowl set aside.
- Spray a 12 x 16 inch baking pan with non stick cooking spray.
- In a large microwave safe bowl, add the 10 ounce bag of mini marshmallows and butter. Heat 30 seconds, stir, continue microwaving in 30 second intervals until the marshmallow and butter are melted and creamy (about 1 minute and 30 seconds).
- If desired, add a few drops of orange gel food coloring to the marshmallow mixture. Stir to combine.
- Pour measured cereal into marshmallow bowl, stir until almost combined; mix in the 1 cup mini marshmallows, crushed pretzels, Reece's pieces, and sprinkles. Continue stirring until the heated marshmallow mixture has coated all the cereal.
- FOR SQUARES: Pour into prepared baking pan and press. Let cool completely before cutting into squares.
- FOR POPS: Spray hands with non stick cooking spray (you may need to do this several times throughout the forming process). The mixture is very sticky. Grab enough of the cereal mixture to make a 2 inch ball. Form into a ball, place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, press cut straw into the top center. NOTE: Because the cereal mixture is still soft and hasn't cooled, you might need to reform it a bit after adding the straw. Continue until all the cereal mixture has been formed. Notes
SECOND POP OPTION: Line a 9 x 13 inch baking dish with foil or parchment paper making sure there is enough to hang over sides, spray with non stick cooking spray, let cool completely. Once cooled, lift out of baking dish, cut into squares, insert a straw into each square. Melt white chocolate or vanilla candy, pour into a squeeze bottle and drizzle over the top of each pop.
