Essential Baking Tools
One key component to creating perfect holiday treats is having the right essential baking tools at your fingertips. These tools are the backbone of your baking arsenal, ensuring precision and efficiency in every step of the baking process. From measuring cups and spoons to mixing bowls and a reliable mixer, these essential baking tools will set you up for success in the kitchen. As you prepare to unleash your creativity in the kitchen, having these essential baking tools will be essential in bringing your holiday baking visions to life.
- Cooling Rack: This allows you to cool your baked goods quickly and evenly, which can help prevent over-baking and keep your treats from getting too soft or mushy.
- Parchment Paper: Parchment paper’s non-stick surface prevents food from sticking to baking sheets, so you can avoid greasing the pan and make cleanup easier.
- Offset Spatula: This tool spreads frosting on a cake or cupcake. Nothing beats its control and precision when spreading frosting, glazes, and ganache smoothly and evenly across a cake’s surface.
- Piping Bags or Plastic Bags: A piping bag is used to pipe melt chocolate or canned frosting. In a pinch, a heavy-duty resealable bag works, too. Cut a tiny corner of the resealable bag or piping bag to fine lines or a larger piece to create a drip.
Decorating Supplies
Now, let’s move on to explore the array of decorating supplies that will add the perfect finishing touch to your festive creations. From edible glitter to festive sprinkles, these decorating supplies will elevate your baked goods to the next level. With the right tools in hand, you can turn simple cupcakes into works of art and transform basic cookies into dazzling treats.
- Purchased Frostings: I am a 100% homemade frosting girl. Now that that has been said, let’s talk store-bought frostings. You’ll find many different flavors in cans and a range of colors in tubes and pouches (some even come with tips you can change out). Use these to create base coats or to add highlights. Store-bought frostings can also be used as a glaze. Place the tub of frosting in the microwave and heat in 10-second intervals until the frosting becomes soupy. Dip the top of a cookie or cupcake into the hot frosting and set aside to harden. TIP: Don’t decorate while the frosting is hot, wait a minute for it to cool before adding sprinkles otherwise the sprinkles will run off along with the frosting. At this point, you can add another layer of pipped-on frosting. Creating two layers of frosting! The dipped layer with sprinkles and a piped layer with sprinkles! - Food Coloring: You can find coloring in gel, paste, or liquid form and use it to tint white icing or white candy melts. TIP: If coloring candy melts, use an oil-based coloring
- Sprinkles, Candies, and More: Sanding Sugar is your best friend when it comes to creating the perfect sparkling treat. Keep an assortment of candies on hand to add a fun, whimsical look to your cookies and cupcakes. Candy-coated pretzels, candy eyes, and red hots are great for making a reindeer cupcake topper. Add the big holiday-themed sprinkles to the frosted cookies.
- Candy Coating or Almond Bark: Dip cookies or pretzels in melted candy. Thin the candy with heavy cream and use it as a drip around the top of a cake. CANDY MELTS GANACHE DRIZZLE: 1 cup melting candy PLUS ¼ cup heavy cream. This is one of my favorite items. I always have at least one of the two. If you have candy melts or almond bark on hand, along with pretzel rods, you’re in business and ready to create a quick and easy treat.
